Extreme poverty exists in Ethiopia. This has resulted in several million children becoming orphans. Families in extreme poverty are struggling to survive and often have no food to feed their children. Some parents have made the unthinkable decision to abandon their children to the streets.
Mission 1:27 was established to prevent this crisis by helping to preserve and empower the most vulnerable families on the verge of collapse. We don’t want to see one more family fall apart as a result of poverty!
OUR VISION is to prevent orphans by embracing, equipping, empowering and employing vulnerable families.
Together we can see vulnerable families go from brokenness and helplessness to restoration and hope.
OUR RESPONSE TO THE CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 IN ETHIOPIA
A Letter from our President,
Dear Sponsors of Mission 1:27 Families,
I know if you're like me, you hardly want to read another email about the Coronavirus and how it's impacting you, your family and friends. This email is a quick update about your Mission 1:27 sponsored family(s) and what's taking place at the moment.
The first case of the COVID-19 Coronavirus was reported in Ethiopia on March 13th. There have been a handful of cases reported so far and the Ethiopian government has taken swift action. They have quarantined those who have come into contact with infected citizens, closed all schools and cancelled social events.
As you know, all of the Mission 1:27 sponsored families represent the poorest of Ethiopia. Often these families do not have good access to clean water, hygiene supplies, and medicine. Additionally, many have compromised health conditions that make them especially vulnerable to becoming significantly ill should they become infected with the Coronavirus.
I have been in contact with our Ethiopian In-Country Director and he has instructed all staff to work from home as much as possible. The Mission 1:27 Case Managers will continue to visit your sponsored families and distribute needed food and supplies. Families will be advised about the Coronavirus and what they can do to help minimize risk.
This is, of course, very difficult for our families since they are a communal people, living in close contact and dependent upon one another. I have asked our Ethiopian team to provide us with updates as soon as possible should any of our staff or families become infected.
I'm asking that you would join us in prayer for your sponsored family, our Ethiopian staff, and the people of Ethiopia. They have shared with me that they are praying for all of us at this time. My hope is that our families and Africa in general will be largely spared from this health crisis.
We will continue to keep in close contact with our Ethiopia team and provide you with additional updates should anything change. Thank you for your concern and prayers for your family.
Sincerely grateful for you!

How You Can Help
We know many of you want to help, and you can!
Mission 1:27 Case Managers continue to provide food and supplies to your sponsored family(s). In anticipation of the Coronavirus outbreak, we are sending additional funds to purchase hygiene and sanitation supplies for our families. We will do this each month for the foreseeable future to help them prepare as much as possible.
The hygiene supplies will be added to the monthly food distribution by our Case Managers. They will also be sharing Coronavirus awareness and prevention information with the families.
If you would like give toward this need, please donate here.
Simply designate your donation for hygiene supplies.
