OUR PROJECT AREAS
This area in the capital city of Addis Ababa is a rural community located near the airport. Access to the community is very difficult due to severe road conditions. This is the poorest community located near Addis Ababa. Everywhere you look, you will see debilitating poverty. One of the biggest problems this community faces is lack of clean water.
This project area is located in an industrial area of the capitol city of Addis Ababa called the Nefas Silk neighborhood. There are pockets of very poor families here known as the “Hidden Poor” because these needy families are tucked away in backyards of homes and behind factories. With the help of our partners, we are providing the stability and resources necessary to positively impact these families.
Our Gutumuma project area is located about 4 hours southeast of Addis Ababa. Gutumuma is a very remote village that can only be reached during the dry season. This is our most primitive project area. It represents some of the poorest people in Ethiopia. The majority of our families survive by farming and selling their goods at market. Mission 1:27 is looking for new and innovative ways to help these families become self-sustaining.
Shashemene lies about 150 miles south of the capital city of Addis Ababa. Shashemene has a thriving marketplace which affords business opportunities for many of our families. It is the major transportation hub in southern Ethiopia and is best known for its Rastafarian community.
Western Region (near the Sudan border)
Our Dembidollo project area is located 375 miles west of the capitol city of Addis Ababa, near the Sudan border. To reach this project area requires a 12 hour trip in a Landcruiser over very mountainous terrain. Dembidollo is breathtakingly beautiful and the people are very warm and friendly. Due to their lack of proximity to any major markets, the people of this community sustain themselves with agricultural production.
